The competition in Pokémon Go is about to get much fiercer with the introduction of the Great League and we are delivering you a list of the best attackers out there. Players have the chance to compete against other Pokémon Go coaches to test their teams against one another, by fighting in similar battles they have already waged against Team Go Rocket, gymnastic battles and friendly skirmishes with friends. An essential aspect of developing your skills for the Battle League is to learn the requirements for entering the Great League, but you also need to determine who you want for an attacker. Here are a handful of optimal choices from which you can choose to fulfill this role.
It’s important to note that there is a maximum authorized CP for pokémons in every league. The leagues are Master, Ultra, and Great. Every league has a max CP limit except for Master. The limit for Great is 1,500 CP per Pokémon and 2,500 CP for Ultra.
Pokémon Go attacker : Medicham
Medicham is a Combat and Psychic Pokémon capable of doing substantial damage to this league set. He has a maximum CP of 1431, making him an ideal candidate to help you in the Great League. He has a weakness for Fairy, Flight and Phantom movements, so you will have to use them strategically during combat.
To help diversify the use of Medicham in combat, you may want to have one with the Psycho Cut quick attack and then the Dynamic Punch charge attack, or have one with Counter and Psychic. You can give Medicham two psychic moves or two combat moves, but to help you meet any opponent your enemy throws at you, you’d better have two different types of attacks.
Pokémon Go attacker : Swampert or Marshtomp
For an attacker, Swampert is a superb option. The immediate disadvantage of potentially having one with too much power. The maximum CP for a Swampert is set to 2,974, which means you can easily have one in your collection, but it can be too powerful.
It would help if you tried to choose Marshtomp instead, the second evolution of this Pokémon. Either way, it’s a great option. Water and Soil Pokémon make it weak to nothing, except Grass types, and it is extremely weak against these attacks, another downside.
If you have Swampert, you should use one that can spam Hydro Cannon for its charge attack, and then choose a water pistol. You will probably want to provide him with Mud Shot to disperse the types of attacks he uses. For Marshtomp, you want to have one that can use Mud Shot and Surf or Water Gun and Mud Bomb. These two don’t have as much defense as Medicham, so make sure you’re ready to meet your enemy using the full combat strength of these two in an encounter.
Pokémon Go attacker : Skarmory
Now, for those who want to bring out a solid striker with a robust defense, Skarmory is a great option. It is of the Steel and Flying type, which makes it weak to Fighting and Electric attacks, but resistant to many others. Your opponent will have a hard time trying to make a hit against this choice, but Skarmory’s overall attack, at 148, means he’s missing a bit in this genre.
However, the solid defenses of a solid 226 compensate for it, and you want to bring it into battle with Steel Wing and Sky Attack, or Steel Wing and Brave Bird. Of the two choices, the latter does not do as much damage. You can go with Steel Wing and Flash Cannon, but having two movements of the same type can limit the effective damage range of Skarmory. The maximum overall CP for a Skarmory reaches 2108, so you shouldn’t have any trouble bringing one into the Great League under 1500.
Pokémon Go attacker : Gengar or Haunter
For those looking for a unique type to bring to combat, Gengar or Haunter are optimal choices for direct damage. These Ghost and Poison type Pokémon are glass cannons, weak to Dark, Ghost, Ground and Psychic attacks. If you use one of these two, you must make sure to reserve one or two shields because their lower defenses will force you to sacrifice one of them to be able to inflict a lot of damage to your opponent.
Gengar’s max CP is 2,878, so you need to have an extremely low one to get there. Haunter, on the other hand, has a maximum CP of 1,963, making it a much more natural choice for entering the Great League. No shame in counting a Gengar, because it has higher defenses than its lower evolution. If you’re using Gengar, try having one with the Lick and Sludge bomb, or if you’re trying to do the most damage, be sure to bring Shadow Ball. For Haunter, you want to use one with Lick and Sludge Bomb, but he can also know Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball.
Pokémon Go attacker : Bastiodon
When you need a solid fighter in the Great League, look no further than Bastiodon. You can be careful placing it against any Combat, Ground, or Water type Pokémon, but this Rock and Steel type fossil Pokémon is great where it counts. He’s a fantastic defender, and although he can only cap his PC at 1,539, he’s perfect for use in the Great League.
For attacks, you have a handful of options. You can choose to give him Smack Down or Iron Tail for his quick attack, but for his charged attack, you have to choose between Stone Edge, Flash Cannon and Flamethrower. You have the choice, but we recommend that you do not choose the same type of movements due to the variety of options of Bastiodan. Stone Edge and Flash Cannon cost a considerable amount of energy, but Bastiodan’s robust defenses should stay the course and keep repelling attacks.
