History of the game
The Resident Evil saga was born in 1996 on PlayStation and is a surefire reference in the survival-horror genre, developed and published by Capcom.
Year after year, the story of the licence has become so famous that few gamers do not feel a shiver of horror at the mere mention of Raccoon City, the Spencer Mansion or the multinational Umbrella Corporation.
The saga has seen a number of courageous characters ready to do anything to face the hordes of zombies and other evil creatures. Claire and Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Alice (played in the Paul W.S. Anderson films by actress Milla Jovovich), Leon S. Kennedy, Albert Wesker, Ethan Winters…
5 / Resident Evil 2 : Remake
While the success of Resident Evil 2, released in 1998, is no longer in question – with over 5 million copies sold – it is its remake that has taken the cake in 2019. With 7.8 million copies purchased by gamers, including 3 million in the first week, Resident Evil 2 Remake quickly became one of the biggest hits on PC, Playstation and Xbox One.
4 / Resident Evil : Biohazard
A few years before the remakes of 2 and 3, Resident Evil released its seventh opus, Biohazard, in 2017. It differs from episodes 5 and 6, released in 2009 and 2012, thanks to a return to its roots. Less action-oriented, it focuses more on survival and integrates for the first time the first-person view. This approach has enabled it to rank as one of the best selling Resident Evil game, with 8.5 million units sold.
3 / Resident Evil 4
Back to the early 2000s with Resident Evil 4. More action-oriented, it offers a different experience to players. Here we play as Leon S. Kennedy, sent on a mission to save the daughter of the American president Ashley Graham, kidnapped by a cult. Resident Evil 4 featured for the first time an over-the-shoulder third-person view, which became standard in subsequent releases. It sold 10.78 million copies worldwide.
2 / Resident Evil 6
At the time of its release in 2012, Resident Evil 6 was Capcom’s biggest production, with a total of 600 people working on the project. One element was decisive in the success of Resident Evil 6, although not obvious on paper: the return of the original zombies. These cult enemies of the franchise were not present in issues 4 and 5. Despite the criticism of the four different storylines, the game was a huge success with 11.5 million copies purchased by fans.
1 / Resident Evil 5: It is “The Golden one”
The best selling Resident Evil in the world is Resident Evil 5, the first game in the franchise released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. In order to attract a larger number of players, Capcom has made this new opus a real blockbuster. As with 4, this opus fully assumes its action aspect and offers for the first time the possibility of playing in two, in cooperation, which makes it the best selling Resident Evil game of all time and has reached until now more than 13.3 Million of sales .
